Biobehavioral laboratory
The School of Nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University houses the biobehavioral laboratory facility, founded as the Center for Biobehavioral Clinical Research (CBCR) (P20 NR08988, NL McCain, PI), which includes a cardiopulmonary lab and a molecular analysis lab. This resource offers members and affiliate members of the Center of Excellence for Biobehavioral Approaches to Symptom Management (P30 NR011403; MJ Grap, PI), as well as other faculty and collaborators access to a variety of biological measures.
Services offered
The cardiopulmonary lab offers clinical laboratory services which include venous blood, saliva, exhaled breath and sputum collection, pulmonary function testing, exhaled nitric oxide analysis, ECG recordings, as well as, private space for subject interviews, physical exams and administration of study interventions such as guided imagery and acupuncture. The molecular analysis lab is capable of multiplex assays, ELISA assays, chromium release assays, DNA and RNA isolation and analysis, quantitative PCR and studies utilizing radioactive markers such is cytotoxicity and proliferation assays. The biobehavioral laboratory provides rapid turnaround, competitive pricing, and meticulous quality control of services. The scientific and administrative director of the lab is Marty Montpetit, Ph.D. who collaborates with researchers and manages the laboratories. The biobehaviorial laboratory is currently supported, in part, by funding from the NIH (P30 NR011403; MJ Grap, PI).

The services of the biobehavioral laboratory are available to tenured (or tenure track) SON faculty and SON doctoral students by arrangement though their dissertation advisor. Other faculty (both with the School of Nursing and across the University and Health System) may have access to laboratory services on a fee for service basis.
