Stress, Immunity and Symptoms in Fibromyalgia
Principal Investigator: Dr. Victoria Menzies

Further understanding the relationships among fibromyalgia symptoms, perceived stress, and PNI-based biomarkers is needed to guide intervention strategies and to better explain potential mechanisms among the psychosocial, neuroendocrine and immunological (PNI) parameters of this disorder. Such understanding may inform future PNI intervention strategies as well as help identify biomarkers for future studies that have reproducibility and practical, predictive value in fibromyalgia (Mease et al., 2007). Therefore, the purpose of this pilot study is to examine the relationships among symptoms of pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, sleep and functional status, levels of selected pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines and perceived stress in women diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
