Exploring the Complexity of the Trajectory of Cardiometabolic Risk in Women

PI: Jo Lynne Robins

This exploratory study seeks to examine the complexity of cardiometabolic risk (CMR), which ultimately culminates in coronary heart disease (CHD), in women with and without abdominal adiposity who have a family history of CHD. Integrating functional medicine, psychoneuroimmunology (PNI), and allostatic load provides a comprehensive framework for quantifying, understanding, and moderating evolving disease risk. This approach will maximize disease prevention by creating a more holistic, comprehensive model combining known indicators of risk with newer, potentially more powerful preclinical indicators and biomarkers. Ultimately, these data will be used as the foundation for an interdisciplinary, translational research trajectory exploring the effects of a novel holistic healthy lifestyle intervention to modify CMR.
