The VCU School of Nursing Ph.D. program prepares nursing scholars for a lifetime of intellectual inquiry and cutting-edge research as well as for academic or research positions. The program focuses on the following areas: healing, risk and resilience, and biobehavioral clinical.

These focus areas are designed to gain in-depth substantive knowledge of topics, and more specifically, the topic of interest to the student. Students are required to take the foundation course in their selected areas and select two additional courses with guidance from their faculty advisers. Students also will have mentored research experiences in the focus area with select faculty.
