Master's Program for RNs
without a Baccalaureate degree
Virginia
Commonwealth University School of Nursing offers a RN-MS
program that is designed for individuals who are registered
nurses having graduated from an Associate's or Diploma
program in nursing and do not have a baccalaureate degree in
nursing or another discipline. The program includes elements of the RN-BS
program and moves the student expeditiously into MS program
coursework. Students are admitted directly to the Master's program after the
Bachelor of Science in Nursing is awarded.
Specialty Areas
The RN-MS program offers
general core content requisite for advanced practice nursing
as well as content aimed at preparation in a specialty
concentration. The master's program prepares graduates to be
certified as either clinical nurse specialists or nurse
practitioners.
Admissions
Requirements
- A lower division nursing education (associate degree or diploma) from a
U.S. program accredited by NLN-AC or CCNE or international
equivalent.
- Current unrestricted RN license in a state, the
District of Columbia, or
a United States possession or territory.
- Acceptable GRE scores.
- Graduates of international nursing schools who are not licensed in a
state, the District of Columbia or a United States possession
or territory are required to obtain a VisaScreen
Certificate issued by the Commission on Graduates of Foreign
Nursing Schools.

**College Biology, Chemistry or Physics with lab.
One semester must be College Chemistry if the applicant
did not complete high school chemistry or the community
college equivalent with a "C" or better.
Prerequisites/Co-requisites
The following course will be accepted in transfer, only upon a
rigorous evaluation for comparability to the BS
course using defined criteria developed by expert faculty in
community health. Applicants must provide a copy of the course syllabi
and a written statement of how the course met the objectives
of the VCU course.VCU
