Master's Program for RNs with a Baccalaureate degree in a field other than Nursing

Admissions Requirements

  • A lower division nursing education (associate degree or diploma) from a U.S. program accredited by NLN-AC or CCNE and a baccalaureate degree in a field other than nursing.
  • Current unrestricted RN license in a state, the District of Columbia, or a United States possession or territory.
  • Acceptable GRE scores.
  • Graduates of international nursing schools who are not licensed in a state, the District of Columbia or a United States possession or territory are required to obtain a VisaScreen Certificate issued by the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.

Prerequisites

Undergraduate course in statistics (math statistics is preferred)

Prerequisites/Co-requisites

  • NURS 415: Community Health Nursing
  • NURS 477: Leadership and Management in Health Care

These courses can be completed prior to beginning Master's courses or as part of the Master's program. You must be admitted to the MS program to take these courses at VCU.   Applicants may follow the Transfer Credit Request Procedure if they have

Delete all of the following request a "waiver" from taking any of these courses.The applicant needs to provide specific documentation in a 1-2 page statement of the ways in which they believe that either through their past educational experiences or work history that they have met the objectives of the course for which they are requesting a waiver.  The applicant may attach such information as syllabi from previously taken courses, letters from employers, or job descriptions.  This information is
submitted to the School of Nursing Graduate Admissions, Policy and Progression Committee.
