School of Nursing Recognition Ceremony

Date: Friday, May 16, 2008 @ 7:30pm

Location – Stuart C. Siegel Center, 1200 W. Broad St., Monroe Park Campus

Time – Ceremony begins at 7:30 PM.  Graduates should arrive no later than 7:00 PM    Reception will follow the Recognition Ceremony. 

Parking – Parking is provide free of cost at the Broad Street and Bowie Street parking decks

Dress – Academic attire – cap & gown. 

Guests - There is no limit to the number of guests that you may wish to invite. Please send the number of guests to Carrie Newcomb (cnewcomb@vcu.edu) by May 1st. 

Instructions for Graduates: 

PLEASE ARRIVE BY 7:00PM

  • Follow signs in lobby to the staging areas.
  • Robe in your academic attire. 
  • BS candidates will wear hood with gown and cap.
  • Ph.D. and MS candidates will carry their hoods. 
  • If you ordered a nursing pin, it will be handed out to you before the procession begins.
  • You do not need to be in alpha order but you do need to have a name card.  Name cards will be distributed in the staging areas. 
  • At 7:15 pm, you will be led from the staging area to the back part of the Arena.  You will proceed in a single file line to the back of the arena. 
  • The order of the procession is as follows:
    • Faculty
    • Ph.D.
    • MS
    • Post-MS
    • BS
  • At 7:30, the procession will begin.  The Marshalls will lead the procession.  Graduates will follow the faculty and process in a single line.  The Marshalls will direct you to your seat. 
  • During the ceremony, the Marshall will direct you to the stage at the appropriate time. 
  • You will walk up the steps, hand your name card to Mike Newsome. When he announces your name, you will walk across the stage. You will first be pinned if you have a pin.  MS and PhD candidates will be hooded.  Then proceed across the stage, shake hands with Dr. Younger and then Dr. Langston.  Exit the stage and return to your seat and sit down.
