Technology
The VCU School of Nursing Department of Information Technology assists faculty, staff and students meet their goals meeting the education, research and service missions of the School. If you have information you wish to share to the School of Nursing community through the blog, website or Axis TV players around the School, please fill out this form.
Services
We provide the following services:
- Instructional support - we have a full-time eLearning developer/instructional technologist who can assist you in developing your course. This may be assistance meeting the guiding principles of Quality Matters or assistance with a specific technology you wish to utilize in your instruction.
- Computer repair and suppport - we have 2 certified computer technicians available to repair your computer or assist with questions you may have.
- Classroom support - we work with VCU Media Services Support to assist faculty and staff in their use of the classroom technology.
Examples
The following is a list of some of the great things our faculty, staff and students are doing here at the School of Nursing. If you would like to learn more about any of the technologies listed below, please feel free to email School of Nursing - IT using your Lotus Notes address book or stopping by to make an appointment. We are located on the third floor near 3001c.
- Echo Personal Capture software used to: rehearse for a presentation and to post a lecture when faculty were attending a national conference.
- SoftChalk LessonBuilder used to: create activities that students complete using apps on their iPod Touch, create instructional units to post to Blackboard, and training to post online with a certificate of completion at the end.
- Articulate and Screenr are used to create course introductions and lectures to post online. Students created an Articulate lecture that hospital nurses are using to earn CEUs.
- Wimba is used to: host office hours, meet virtually with researchers at other institutions, have students present their group work online, and create recordings or messages to personalize information for students in online courses.
- Classroom Jeopardy is used as a fun way to review for exams.
- Clickers are used for: attendance, review, assessment and surveys.
- Echo 360: classroom lecture capture used for classes, meetings, outside speakers and student presentations.
- Respondus is used to create paper versions of tests.
- Instructors participated in a contest to improve their Blackboard courses using Quality Matters.
- Moodle is used for class collaboration between partnering institutions.
- Typhon is the clinical tracking system used to document clinical experiences in the graduate and undergraduate programs.
- The School of Nursing hosted an Elluminate session that was facilitated by Quality Matters.
- Tandberg teleconferencing unit used to: lecture, participate in committees from other universities, “send” lectures to local hospitals, and to contact our partner institutions across the Atlantic.
- Blackboard: journals, self and peer assessment, blogs, scholar, rss feeds, Wimba and more.
