Technology: clickers
Clickers, also known as Classroom Response Systems, are used to create an active learning environment by way of immediate student feedback. i>clicker, the clicker technology adopted by the School of Nursing, works as follows:
- An instructor poses a verbal question, or projects a question created in PowerPoint, Word or another technology.
- Each student answers the question using a clicker, a hand-held device that looks very much like a TV remote.
- Student responses are collected by a base station at the instructor podium.
- The instructor projects a chart that shows the distribution of student responses.
Faculty at the School of Nursing use clickers to evaluate student comprehension, stimulate discussion, take attendance, gather survey data and otherwise engage students.
For faculty
The School of Nursing has a set of 100 i>clickers that can be used for a class or event. To reserve the i>clickers or to learn how to use them, please email School of Nursing - IT. Clickers are to be picked up and returned at the front desk.
Please note that this School of Nursing i>clicker set cannot associate responses with individuals. In order to do that, you will need to notify the bookstore that your students will purchasing clickers.
