The Unique contribution of the Department of Integrative Systems is its macrosystems perspective on the development and application of knowledge for nursing. The Mission of the Department is to engage in research and clinical scholarship, education, and service that illuminate the dynamic interplay among multiple systems. Of particular interest is the contextual impact of organizations, families and individuals.
Goals
The department seeks to better the human condition through the application of integrative nursing knowledge with focal points of mental health, communities, and organizations. Using this purpose as the context, the goals are:
- Conduct research and engage in scholarship.
- Prepare scholars, practitioners and leaders.
- Participate in academic, professional and community service.
Objectives
- Obtain external funding for research and scholarship projects that advance integrative nursing knowledge.
- Disseminate integrative nursing knowledge through publication and presentation at conferences with regional, national or international audiences.
- Develop and refine programs of scholarship through departmental school, university and community dialogue and collaboration.
- Preparation of Scholars, Practitioners and Leaders
- Recruit, enroll and retain undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.
- Increase enrollment and retention of students in graduate specialties.
- Evaluate and refine the graduate specialties.
- Enhance quality of teaching and learning through systematic review of courses and teaching strategies.
- Increase faculty knowledge and skill for use of technology for advancing teaching mission of department.
- Participation in Academic, Professional and Community Service
- Provide leadership in areas of curriculum and program development through securing external funding.
- Provide leadership in promoting integrative nursing perspective through participation in professional organizations.
