Alumni and friends
Make a gift
The word philanthropy comes from the Greek philanthrōpos, which means love of human beings. And, ultimately, the love of people is what motivates us as students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends to make financial contributions to the VCU School of Nursing.
In the late 1990s, the Indiana University School of Nursing and the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy, in association with Sigma Theta Tau International and the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action, sponsored a conference entitled, “Nursing and Philanthropy: An Energizing Metaphor for the 21st Century,” and during the proceedings, Dr. Joyce Fitzpatrick, then dean of the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University, had this to say:
… the very core of the art of professional nursing – the commitment to humanity, the commitment to others less healthy or less fortunate due to poverty, illness, or other human conditions – is the same driving force for philanthropy, which is by definition an act of goodwill toward others, a concern for others, expressed through generosity.
We, as nurses and friends of nursing, understand philanthropy because it is at the very core of the nursing profession.
When we choose to give our time, effort, and money to support people – not just the VCU Nursing students and faculty who are here today, but nursing leaders for generations to come; leaders who will create solutions for patients, communities, the nation and perhaps the world – this act of generosity has the ultimate return on investment.
So, thank you for your interest in making a gift to the VCU School of Nursing. Below are a variety of ways in which you can provide financial support that will enable the VCU School of Nursing to carry out its mission to improve health and the human condition through leadership in nursing research, education and service.
