FAQ’s
Academic Difficulty
Students who expect to fail a class should speak with their advisor as soon as possible. For all general education and nursing courses a Grade C is required to progress. If a student receives a Grade D/unsatisfactory or lower, the course must be repeated. Once admitted to the SON , if the repeated course or another course is failed with a grade of D/unsatisfactory or lower, the student may not proceed in the nursing major and is dismissed from the School of Nursing . Refer to the SON policy handbook for complete information.
Class Registration
Registration for classes is completed online. Students that are “out of step” with their program or students with other concerns will be required to speak with their advisor before registering. For complete registration instructions click here.
Taking a course at another institution
If you plan to take a course over the summer (or any other time) at another college or university getting approval is necessary to ensure the course will transfer.
The student must complete the Request to Take Courses at another Institution form.
If the course is a general education requirement students should check with an Advisor from the College of Humanities & Sciences to see if the course is transferable to VCU. The Transfer Guide also offers some relevant information. If the course is a nursing requirement students must meet with their advisor. Students are responsible for having a transcript from the other institution sent to the SON.
Students who are currently in the last 25 percent of the credit semester hours required toward a degree should call (804) 828-2333 for petition information.
