Traditional MS Program
Accelerated MS
Admission Requirements – To be considered for the Accelerated MS track, applicants must:
- Have a bachelor’s degree in a field other than nursing.
- Be eligible for readmission or be in good standing at the last college attended.
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on all college coursework.
- Have either a minimum SAT of 900 (on critical thinking and math sections only with neither score below 400) or comparable scores on the ACT or GRE.
- Send test scores directly to VCU (SAT code: 5570. ACT code: 4379. GRE code: 5570).
- Complete the following courses prior to enrollment: anatomy, physiology, microbiology, developmental psychology covering the lifespan and statistics.
- Refer to the VCU Transfer Guide for transferrable courses offered at other universities and colleges.
- Electronic submission of online VCU Graduate Application, and all required documents by November 1.
RN-MS
Admission Requirements – To be considered for the RN-MS track, applicants must:
- Be eligible for readmission or in good standing at the last college attended.
- Be a graduate of an accredited (NLNAC) diploma or associate degree program in nursing.
- Have a current unencumbered RN license or an authorization to practice as an RN in Virginia, the District of Columbia or a US possession or territory.
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.7 on all college coursework.
- Complete the following courses prior to enrollment: anatomy (4 credits), physiology (4 credits), English composition (6 credits), statistics (3 credits), philosophy (3 credits), humanities (9 credits), general psychology (3 credits), developmental psychology (3 credits), general sociology (3 credits), college lab science (8 credits), microbiology (4 credits) and nutrition (3 credits).
- Refer to the VCU Transfer Guide for transferrable courses offered at other universities and colleges.
- If the applicant has a bachelor’s degree in another discipline, the general education requirements for the RN-MS Program will be met with the previous baccalaureate degree with the exception of anatomy (4 credits), physiology (4 credits), microbiology (4 credits), developmental psychology (3 credits) and statistics (3 credits).
- Refer to the VCU Transfer Guide for transferrable courses offered at other universities and colleges.
- GRE scores are required if cumulative undergraduate GPA is less than 3.25 upon completion of the BS portion of the RN-MS Program.
- Electronic submission of online VCU Graduate Application, School of Nursing supplemental application materials and all required documents by March 15.
Traditional MS Program
Admission Requirements – To be considered for the Traditional MS track, applicants must:
- Be eligible for readmission or in good standing at the last college attended.
- Be a graduate of an accredited (NLNAC or CCNE) baccalaureate degree program in nursing.
- Have a current unencumbered RN license or an authorization to practice as an RN in Virginia, the District of Columbia or a US possession or territory.
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 on all college coursework.
- Complete an undergraduate statistics course.
- GRE scores are required if cumulative undergraduate GPA is less than 3.25.
- Electronic submission of online VCU Graduate Application, School of Nursing supplemental application materials and all required documents by February 1.
