  • I’m a college junior and want to transfer into the School of Nursing and want to complete a Bachelor of Science degree with a major of nursing, how many years will it take me?
    Answer: Three years. All students enter the Traditional Bachelor’s track as a sophomore and complete the degree in three years.
  • What programs require standardized test scores?
    Answer: Traditional Bachelor’s: SAT, ACT or GREs are required
    Accelerated Bachelor’s: SAT, ACT or GREs are required
    RN-BS: No test scores required
    Accelerated Master’s: SAT, ACT or GREs are required
    Traditional Master’s: GREs are required if cumulative GPA is less than 3.25
    Post-Master’s: No test scores required
    PhD: GREs required
  • Do you admit students in the spring semester?
    Answer: The only program we admit to in the spring semester is the Nursing Administration and Leadership concentration within the Traditional Master’s program.
  • Do you offer any courses online?
    Answer: The only program that offers online courses is the RN-BS Completion program, which is predominantly online with one face-to-face course.
  • Who is eligible to apply to the Accelerated programs?
    Answer: The Accelerated program is designed for applicants that have earned a Bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing discipline.
  • Are the pre-licensure programs (Traditional BS, Accelerated BS and Accelerated Second Degree Programs) full time? What time of day are classes offered?
    Answer: Yes. The Traditional BS, Accelerated BS and Accelerated Second Degree Programs require full time study. There are no part-time plans of study for these programs. Classes are offered any time between 7 am and 8 pm. Some clinical experiences may be taught on Saturdays. 
  • When can I visit the campus or attend an information session?
    Answer: The VCU School of Nursing offers information sessions for prospective applicants on most Fridays at the School. Click here for times and more information.
  • I’ve heard that criminal background checks and drug screening is required by some clinical agencies, is this true for clinical experiences as a VCU student?  
    Answer: Yes, some agencies may require these screens for student placement. If those screens are required, the student is responsible for the cost of the screens. Further, having been convicted of certain crimes may result in not being licensed as a nurse or allowed to work in a number of health care agencies. Individuals are advised to discuss these issues with their attorney. 
  • Can I check the status of my application or confirm materials have been received?
    Answer: Yes. Log in to your online application and review the checklist for documents received. You will also receive an email from the VCU School of Nursing when all documents have been received from either Undergraduate Admissions or Graduate Admissions. Please allow 3-4 weeks for processing.
  • How will the School of Nursing communicate decisions for admission?
    Answer: All decisions are sent via mail to the permanent address included on the application for admission.
  • What is the cost of attendance including tuition and fees? 
    Answer: This information can be found on the Student Accounting website.
  • Where do I get the application?
    Answer: You can visit the online application form and read about additional materials required for application on the graduate school website or the undergraduate school website.
