Sigma Theta Tau: research grants
2009 grant recipient, Debbie Mobley, RN
Each year Gamma Omega awards two research grants. The Independent Research Small Grant is for clinical nursing research that advances the knowledge and science of nursing. The deadline for this grant is February 1st.
The second research grant is the Nurse Researcher/Nurse Clinician Partnership Grant. This grant is to further nursing knowledge building through the development of evidence-based practice in the clinical setting. Through this funding mechanism a nurse clinician is encouraged to work with a nurse researcher to develop, carryout and evaluate an evidence-based practice project that uses research findings to change practice in the clinical setting. The deadline for this grant is December 1st.
2009 Grant Recipient - Debbie Mobley
Debbie Mobley is a registered nurse currently pursuing her doctorate in healing. She will complete her studies in 2009 through Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing where she also completed her undergraduate degree in nursing and graduate degree in nursing administration. She completed an Executive Fellowship in Patient Safety in 2003 through the VCU School of Health Administration. Debbie also completed her studies as a Faith Community Nurse and Faith Community Coordinator through Shenandoah University. Debbie has been a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality since 1993 and is a trained facilitator. In 1999, the Virginia Nurses Association honored Debbie by naming her as one of the “99 Outstanding Nurses in Virginia”.
Her work experiences include most recently the former Director of Performance Improvement at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. She has experience in regulatory compliance, patient safety, quality, administration, staff education, marketing and community relations. She is published in the areas of quality, research and regulatory compliance. Her clinical practice includes medical, surgical, obstetrical, pediatric and trauma emergency nursing. She currently serves as adjunct faculty in the VCU School of Nursing and School of Health Administration. She serves also as co-chair of the Fellowship of Faith Community Nurses for the Virginia Conference United Methodist Church.
Areas of research interest include patient safety and the impact of medical mistakes on the healthcare professional, the role of patients in patient safety, and the faith community nurse and practice.
2009 Grant Recipient - Pat Selig
2009 grant recipient, Pat Selig, PhD, RN
Patricia Selig received her baccalaureate degree in nursing at the University of Massachusetts, a Masters Degree in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Ph.D. from the School of Allied Health in Health Sciences through the Department of Health Administration at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr Selig is currently the Director for Nursing Research at Bon Secours Richmond Health System. Dr Selig has more than 30 years of nursing experience. As a nurse practitioner, her clinical focus has been in women’s health and chronic disease.
She has been a member of Sigma Theta Tau for 21 years. She has published in several nursing journals and has co-authored a chapter in the book, A Guide to Women’s Health in Primary Care, which won the American Journal of Nursing Book of the year award, the first year it was published.
